The Case of the Missing Crumbs

Leo was a boy who loved mysteries, but today, the mystery was personal. He had left his special bundle of oatmeal cookies on the kitchen table, wrapped neatly in a brown paper bag. When he came back from washing his hands, the bag was gone!

"Oh no! My cookies have vanished into thin air!" Leo cried out. He grabbed his trusty magnifying glass and began to search the floor. He found a tiny trail of golden crumbs leading away from the table and toward the back door.

He followed the trail past the sleeping cat and out into the garden. The sun was warm on his face, and the flowers were swaying in the breeze. Suddenly, he saw a flash of gray fur behind the big oak tree. He crept closer, stepping softly on the grass.

Behind the tree sat his little sister, Mia, and their fluffy dog, Barnaby. They were sitting on a blanket, and the cookie bundle was open between them. Barnaby had a very happy look on his face.

"Aha! I found the cookie thieves!" Leo shouted.

Mia looked up and smiled. "We wanted to have a surprise picnic, Leo. We were just about to call you!"

Leo felt his tummy rumble and realized he wasn't angry at all. "Well, a picnic is a much better mystery than a robbery," he said. He sat down on the blanket and took a big, crunchy bite of a cookie. It was the best mystery he had ever solved.
