That’s Not a Moon
Julia sees the moon but then notices it with a face After that she was missing

Chapter 1
The Brass Telescope
Eleven-year-old Julia loved the night sky more than anything else in the world. While other kids spent their evenings playing video games, Julia sat in her attic bedroom, staring through her vintage brass telescope.
Her older brother, twelve-year-old Leo, leaned against the doorway with a smile. "Are you still trying to discover a new planet, Julia?"
"Science takes patience, Leo," Julia replied, adjusting the smooth focus wheel of her telescope. "The sky is full of secrets waiting to be noticed."
Tonight was extra special. A full moon was scheduled to rise over the dark pine trees surrounding their home in Whispering Valley. The weather was unusually quiet, and cold autumn air leaked through the frame of her open window.
Julia pulled her thick sweater closer around her shoulders. "It's so clear tonight. Perfect for stargazing."
"Just don't stay up too late," Leo warned gently before closing her door. "Mom said turn off the light by ten."
Julia nodded, but her eyes were already fixed back on the shimmering night sky. She was ready to watch the full moon rise above the shadows.

Chapter 2
The Silver Disk
By midnight, the house was completely silent. The rest of the world was fast asleep, but Julia remained awake, pulled by an unexplainable feeling.
She looked through the eye-lens of her brass telescope. The moon had risen above the treeline, glowing with a strange, icy intensity.
"Wait..." Julia murmured, leaning closer to the brass tube.
Something was strange. The moon was far larger than it had been last night—almost double its usual size. But it wasn't just the size that chilled her blood. The surface of the moon looked strangely smooth, like polished porcelain instead of rough rock.
She rubbed her eyes, thinking fatigue was tricking her vision. "I must be tired," she whispered to herself.
She leaned in again and refocused the lens. The craters were shifting. They were moving in slow, rhythmic ripples across the pale sphere. It didn't look like a giant ball of gray stone floating in space. It looked like skin.

Chapter 3
The Face in the Sky
Julia felt a cold shiver run down her spine as she stared deeper into the telescope's view.
The gray shadows on the silver disk were forming clear shapes. Two massive, pale circles opened up near the top. They looked like giant, milky eyes. Below them, a dark, thin line stretched slowly from edge to edge.
Julia gasped, her heart pounding against her ribs.
The moon had a face.
As she watched in horror, the huge pale eyes rolled slowly down, staring directly through the distance into her window. The thin line curbed upward into a wide, unnatural smile. It was looking right at her.
"No... that's impossible," Julia whispered, her voice trembling.
Suddenly, a soft, freezing breeze swept into her room, bringing a strange scent of ozone and burnt sugar. Inside her mind, a high-pitched, echoing murmur sounded, calling her name. Julia couldn't pull her eyes away from the giant smiling creature in the sky.

Chapter 4
Vanished into Thin Air
The next morning, sunlight filtered weakly through the autumn fog. Leo knocked on Julia's bedroom door.
"Julia? Wake up, breakfast is ready!" he called out.
There was no answer. Leo turned the brass doorknob and stepped inside.
The room was freezing cold. The window was wide open, swinging back and forth on its hinges with a slow creak. Julia's bed was made, untouched. Her blue sweater lay neatly on her chair, but Julia was nowhere to be found.
"Julia?" Leo called out, his voice cracking with fear.
He ran over to the open window. Her brass telescope was still mounted on its tripod, aimed high toward the pale, empty morning sky. Scattered along the wooden windowsill was a fine dusting of glowing silver powder that sparkled eerily in the shade.
Julia had vanished into thin air without leaving a single trace behind.

Chapter 5
The Trail of Silver Dust
Panic washed over Leo. He knew something deeply wrong had happened during the night.
Looking out the window, he noticed tiny specks of the glowing silver powder trailing down the wooden roof shingles and onto the muddy forest path behind their backyard.
"I have to find her," Leo muttered, grabbing his heavy flashlight from the hallway desk.
He rushed outside into the foggy woodland. The air felt heavy and unnaturally silent. Not a single bird sang among the misty branches. The only sign of life was the glowing silver dust sprinkled across the pine needles like tiny fallen stars.
Leo followed the sparkling trail deeper and deeper into Whispering Woods. "Julia! Can you hear me?"
His voice echoed uselessly through the trees. The trail ended at the edge of a high, rocky cliff overlooking the entire valley.

Chapter 6
The Echo in the Stars
At the top of the hill, the silver trail stopped completely beside a large mossy boulder. Resting on the cold rock was Julia's handwritten stargazing notebook, open to the final page.
Leo picked up the notebook with trembling hands. On the paper, Julia had drawn a quick, frantic sketch of a giant face in the sky, with the words *It sees me* scribbled underneath.
Leo looked up at the sky.
Even though it was daytime, the sun looked faint and dim. High above the fog, where the moon should have been, there was only a pale, dark outline—a hollow shadow in the shape of a smiling face.
Suddenly, a faint voice echoed quietly in Leo's mind, sounding just like his sister.
"The sky is full of secrets, Leo..." her whisper drifted down from above.
Leo stepped back, staring into the bright infinite height above. Julia was gone, pulled up into the endless dark sky, leaving behind only her notebook and an unsolved mystery that would haunt the valley forever.
The end.
